Paying it Forward

It’s the second year for Run Baltimore, a group led by student-athlete volunteers to introduce Baltimore children to sports in a supportive environment designed to build teamwork, confidence, and health.

Run Baltimore is one of 24 U.S. university chapters of Run Your City, a nonprofit founded in 2018. The Baltimore chapter offers two six-week sessions—one in the fall, one in the spring—for kids in grades K-8. The free, team-based practices and track events are designed for kids of all abilities, with the goal of making running fun and accessible for all.

“As a Baltimore City native, I was first introduced to track and field through my public school. It’s incredibly rewarding to now give kids from my community a similar opportunity,” says Run Baltimore co-president Nicole Dia ’26, a molecular and cellular biology and public health double-major and sprinter on the track and field team.

“For me, the most meaningful part of Run Baltimore is that it allows our team to build relationships with kids in the community while sharing our love for track and field,” adds co-president Aisling Callahan ’26, a public health and international studies double-major and member of the cross country and track and field teams.
